About Awesome Python
Awesome Python helps you pick a Python library for a job. Ask the desk on the homepage what you want to do, and it lines up the projects the list recommends for it, ranked by GitHub stars, with how recently each one was worked on. Every category page has the full set, filterable by section and sortable by stars, activity or name.
Where the projects come from
The projects, their categories and their one-line descriptions come from vinta/awesome-python, the opinionated list of Python frameworks, libraries and tools maintained by Vinta Chen and its contributors, used under CC BY 4.0. Awesome Python is an independent project and is not affiliated with the list, its maintainers or awesome-python.com. Category introductions and the job finder's wording are our own.
To add or correct a project, contribute to the list itself. The site reads the latest version of the list several times a day, so accepted changes appear here on their own.
What the signals mean
- Stars are the repository's current GitHub star count, refreshed at least daily. They measure attention, not quality; a young project or a narrow tool can be the better pick with far fewer.
- Updated is the last push to the repository: green within three months, amber within a year, grey after that. Mature libraries can be quiet and still fine.
- Standard library modules ship with Python, so there is nothing to install.
- Rust, C or C++ core marks a repository whose main language on GitHub is compiled, which usually means a fast extension behind a Python API.
