CLI Tools in Python

10 projects in CLI & GUI. Most starred: yt-dlp, httpie and cookiecutter.

Several popular command-line tools are written in Python. pgcli, mycli and litecli are database shells for PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite with autocompletion and syntax highlighting, and IRedis brings the same experience to Redis. HTTPie is a readable alternative to curl for calling and debugging HTTP APIs. yt-dlp downloads video and audio from YouTube and many other sites.

For starting projects, Cookiecutter renders a new project from a template once, while Copier can also update existing projects when the template changes later, which helps when you maintain many similar repositories. xonsh is a shell that mixes Python and shell syntax, and tmuxp saves and restores tmux sessions from configuration files. Install tools like these with pipx or uv tool so each gets its own isolated environment.
